Frequently Asked Questions
-
- Overview of the Course: Scaffolding Safety Training (CAN) is an online course designed to teach workers in Canada how to safely erect, use, and dismantle scaffolding, aligned with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations under the Canada Labour Code, specifically Part 3.10 for Temporary Structures.
- Key Topics: It covers stuff like the types of scaffolds (supported, suspended, etc.), fall protection systems, how to inspect and maintain scaffolds, and the responsibilities of everyone involved—owners, supervisors, and workers. You’ll also learn about common hazards like falls or collapses and how to avoid them.
-
- Target Audience: Anyone who works on or near scaffolding in Canada needs this training—construction workers, scaffold erectors, dismantlers, or even supervisors overseeing the job. If you’re stepping onto a scaffold or setting it up, this is for you.
- Legal Requirement: Under Canadian OHS rules, employers have to ensure their teams are trained to handle scaffolding safely. It’s not optional—it’s a must to comply with federal laws and avoid penalties, especially since untrained workers cause most scaffolding accidents.
- Broad Applicability: Even if you’re not directly building the scaffold, if your job involves being around it—like painters or maintenance crews—you still need to know the safety basics to protect yourself and others.
-
- Our course takes about 1.5 hrs to complete depending on your pace.
-
- Nationwide Compliance: Yes, the certification aligns with the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, so it’s valid federally. That means it’s recognized wherever you’re working under federal jurisdiction, like on big infrastructure projects.
- Provincial Variations: Here’s the catch—Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories, each with its own twist on safety laws. While the core training meets OHS standards, some provinces might have extra rules, so it’s smart to check if your job site needs additional local certification.
- Employer Acceptance: Most employers across Canada will accept it because it’s designed to meet the baseline safety requirements.
-
- Safety First: The biggest perk is you’ll know how to stay safe and keep your coworkers safe—fewer falls, fewer injuries. With around 4,500 scaffolding injuries a year in construction (per U.S. stats), this training can literally save lives.
- Job Opportunities: Having that certificate on your resume shows employers you’re serious about safety, which can open doors in construction, maintenance, or any gig involving heights. It’s a badge of competence.
- Legal and Cost Savings: For workers and bosses, it means fewer accidents, which cuts down on fines, downtime, and medical bills. The course teaches you to spot hazards early, so you’re not just reacting to problems—you’re preventing them.
